Richmond Hill Braces

What Braces for Kids Involve

Kids’ braces move teeth the same way adult braces do, using brackets and wires. Treatment also has to account for jaw growth and teeth that haven’t fully come in yet, so the approach depends on age and diagnosis: early (interceptive) treatment to guide jaw growth, traditional braces once more permanent teeth have erupted, or Invisalign® for teens who are good candidates for clear aligners.

Common Signs a Child May Need Braces

Crowded or overlapping front teeth, losing baby teeth much earlier or later than expected, an overbite, underbite, or teeth that don’t meet properly, thumb-sucking past age five, and chronic mouth breathing are reasons to have a child evaluated. None of these mean treatment is required on their own — an evaluation determines that.

See our Two-Phase Treatment page for more on timing and growth patterns.

Age Ranges and First Visit

Most orthodontic organizations recommend a first evaluation by age seven, even though most children that age don’t need treatment yet. Evaluating early identifies developing issues while there’s still room to guide growth. A first visit includes an exam, digital scans, and a recommendation on whether and when treatment should start.

Cost and Payment

Cost depends on the type and length of treatment needed. We accept most insurance plans, handle claims directly, and offer payment plans.

Orthodontics for Kids FAQs

Some children need an early (Phase One) treatment followed by full braces once permanent teeth come in; others need only one phase. This depends on the individual case.

Many dental plans include some orthodontic coverage. Our office checks your plan and handles claims.

Early treatment can range from several months to about a year. A full course of braces after permanent teeth arrive typically takes 18–24 months.
