Orthodontics is the part of dentistry that moves teeth and corrects how the upper and lower teeth meet, the bite. Crowded, gapped or crooked teeth are the visible reason most people come in, but a bite that does not line up can make teeth harder to clean, wear them unevenly, and strain the jaw over the years. Straightening teeth is partly about confidence and partly about keeping the whole system working for the long run.
At Smiles on Yonge, your orthodontic care is led by orthodontist Dr. Roozbeh Rashed, who has been practising orthodontics for several years here in Richmond Hill. Because the orthodontics sits inside a full children’s dental practice, your child’s bite and their everyday dental health are looked after by one team, in one place. For an adult or a teen, it simply means a clinic that already knows your whole mouth, not just your braces.

Children. A first check around age 7, as the Canadian Association of Orthodontists suggests, lets us watch the jaw and the incoming adult teeth. Often we simply monitor. Sometimes a short early phase now makes the later phase simpler.
Teens. The classic age for braces or Invisalign, once most adult teeth are in. We work around school, sport and real life.
Adults. It is never too late, and discreet options exist.
We offer different types and will talk you through what suits you. Invisalign clear aligners. Clear, removable trays, no metal brackets. Popular with adults and teens who want it subtle. Early, or two phase, treatment. For younger children whose jaws are still growing. Adult orthodontics. Planned around a grown up jaw and schedule.
Tender for a few days after braces go on or after an adjustment, and with each new aligner. It settles with normal pain relief and soft food. How long? It depends on the case. We give you a realistic range at the consultation. After? You wear a retainer to hold the result. Retention is part of the treatment.
Orthodontic fees depend on the complexity of the case and the type of treatment, so we give you the actual numbers after we have seen your teeth, not a vague range before. We will walk you through payment plans and how to use your insurance at the consultation, with no maths left for you to do.
Fees depend on the case and treatment type. We give you the exact cost after an in person assessment, and explain payment plans and insurance.
Neither in general, they suit different cases. Braces handle the widest range, Invisalign is removable and less visible. We go through the right choice with you.
It varies. Some finish within a year, others take longer. You get a realistic timeline at your consultation.
A first check by about age 7, active treatment usually in the teen years, and adults any time.
Some tenderness for a few days after placement or adjustment, eased with normal pain relief and soft foods.
